Our Vertical Reserve – Doi Inthanon Village

Grown on the tallest mountain in Thailand, this honey-processed coffee is a symbol of change and sustainability in expanding communities.

A proud partnership between Doi Inthanon Village, Lanna Coffee Co., and Coffeebar.

This coffee is brought to us through the work of Lanna Coffee Co., a green coffee importer working in northern Thailand. The twenty producers who contributed to this lot are members of the Karen tribe, and live in villages around Doi Inthanon, the tallest mountain in Thailand. And while many of them planted their first coffee trees 10-15 years ago, it’s only in the last two years that infrastructure has been developed that allows them to develop and process their own coffee. Through Lanna’s work and that of ITDP, a non-profit focused on community development, producers have been able to rapidly improve the quality of their product and create market differentiation through varied processing methods.

Design Notes

The coffee bag design is inspired by this overall idea of preservation and sustainability of land, animals, and community. This coffee is grown on Doi Inthanon, the highest mountain in Thailand and deemed a national park. The name “Doi Inthanon” was given in honor of Inthawichayanon, the last King of Chiang Mai, who believed in preservation of these forests. In relation to the coffee, the farm’s producers commute two to three hours down the mountain with the coffee cherries to the Chiang Mai for production.
