The Story
A proud partnership between Finca La Encañada, Swift Coffee Sourcing, and Coffeebar. Finca La Encañada is a renowned 12-hectare coffee farm in the Rioja district of Peru’s San Martín region, nestled in the northern jungle near the Amazon basin and along the Tonchima River. Owned by Peruvian producer Dionicio Aguilar, the farm specializes in high-quality Arabica varieties, processed with a focus on sustainability and specialty standards. Dionicio has dedicated over 15 years to the property, implementing improvements that have boosted cup scores by at least 3 points in recent years. The farm employs a small team year-round (including a manager who doubles as a natural doctor) and swells to 15 workers during harvest.
The owners of Swift Coffee Sourcing, Emily and Michael McIntyre have been working directly with Dionicio since 2015 where they recall trudging through shin-deep red mud to get to the beautiful vistas that is home to Finca La Encañada. Their visit each year is accompanied by long hugs, updates with Dionisio’s 84-year old mother, and pollo a la brasa under the lights of a noisy but persistent generator.
